GYMNASTICS PIT FOAM BLOCKS
Polyurethane foam is an oil bi-product and expensive. Pit foam needs to be fire retardant and meet the requirements of the local building codes. The density needs to be 1.5 to 1.7 pounds density, weight per-cubic feet. The force deflection needs to be 36 to 44 ILD. When purchasing foam, specify the physical properties that fall within these specifications. Less expensive foam of lesser densities will compact and will not provide the protection needed for the athlete. Because of the compaction, more foam will be needed to fill in the pit; cheap foam is not economical when compared to using the proper material.
