ELECTRIC CIRCUIT

Electric has to be installed to the National Electric Code. The NEC is a set of standards developed by the National Fire Protection Association(NFPA). The code is not law, but is the standards are used by electricians and some jurisdictions for safety reasons. As an example, a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) is required for all receptacles in wet locations defined in the Code. When hiring an electrician, in some cases a permit and/or inspection by the building department is also required, especially in commercial buildings. The electrician may also have to be licensed and have completed an extensive apprentice training program.
